Mindfulness Balanced Rocks on WaterMindfulness helps us be more tuned into what we are experiencing in the present moment, as a caring witness to our experience. This mindful attitude allows our mind and body to take a break from the incessant stream of thoughts, memories and sensations that constantly pull us into emotional stories about our past, present or future.

If you experience thoughts of sadness, regret, or frustration, or if you feel worried, fearful or anxious;  Mindfulness can help you learn to experience those thoughts from a place of curiosity, non-judgement, and compassion. From that space, understanding and change can start to happen naturally. With Mindfulness we become more aware of the joys and the sorrows in our lives. We learn to relate to them with wisdom and care.

Mindfullness Peaceful TressMindfulness can be practiced at any moment whether it’s formally or informally.

  • Formally means taking 20 minutes a day to sit down and practice experiencing everything that comes into your awareness (physical sensations, feelings, thoughts), with a curious non-judgmental attitude.
  • Informally means having a mindful attitude while you engage in any activity: eating, walking, talking to someone, listening, showering, etc.

Both practices are beneficial and complement each other.

Once you learn how to practice Mindfulness you can use it as an everyday tool to bring balance, appreciation and wisdom into your life. Hundreds of scientific studies have shown that Mindfulness reduces stress and improves wellbeing in many ways.

Some of the benefits related to the practice of Mindfulness are:

  • Increased capacity to handle the stressful situations
  • Less reactivity and acting out
  • Increased capacity to enjoy the ordinary pleasures of life
  • Self-understanding
  • Development of empathy and compassion
  • Increased attention and concentration skills
  • Ability to notice one’s thoughts without believing them or having to act out immediately
  • Ability to enter into a state of Mindfulness at will in order to reap its immediate and long term benefits

“Mindfulness isn’t just about knowing that you’re hearing something, seeing something, or even observing that you’re having a particular feeling. It’s about doing so in a certain way – with balance and equanimity, and without judgment. Mindfulness is the practice of paying attention in a way that creates space for insight.” ~ Sharon Salzberg
